"This program was extremely valuable because I came into this program knowing that I wasn't very knowledgeable about this industry and I left with a very good understanding of it."
- '09 Alumnus

"It was an excellent opportunity to observe the industry first hand, talk with professionals about their work and experience the day to day life of a financial services representative."

Every day, you support college students who have challenging questions and concerns about their future. We can help. This summer MetLife & New England Financial will present a unique, paid summer program designed to give select students a dynamic experience in financial services and answer many of their questions about the careers in this field. This internship will provide them with an opportunity to preview a career as a Financial Services Representative.

The program is uniquely structured to offer both academic and in-Firm education, including training with professionals from MetLife and New England Financial as well as with The American College faculty and the guidance of a MetLife or New England Financial Mentor in a local office. Their work will culminate in The Capstone Project where students will be provided a situation to develop their own creative research and marketing plan. No matter what career path your students ultimately choose, this program provides valuable insight into creating a personal financial plan that can help them achieve their goals at any stage of life.

If they choose to pursue a career in financial services after college, they can expect their learning to continue to grow exponentially. Working in financial services at MetLife or New England Financial is a lot like running an independent business - only they'll have the expertise, network, Mentors and breadth of resources of a world-class company. By participating in the Financial Fellowship Program, students are paid to learn about the career and what it takes to become successful. The difference is their career choice can make an immediate impact on the lives of people in their community. It can also provide leadership opportunities and increase their earning potential.

We're seeking leaders with entrepreneurial qualities from all academic majors, people from a diverse range of perspectives and backgrounds. The most successful students in this program stand out as leaders among their peers. They are independent thinkers who are highly visible in campus life - the ones that readily get involved in innovative projects and are not afraid to have their voices heard. An interest in the financial industry is essential, along with the following:

  • Full-time enrollment as an undergraduate student in a four-year college or graduated in Spring 2010
  • Completion of at least 90 semester hours or the equivalent
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale
  • Ability to work legally in the United States at a location where the Fellowship is offered
  • Desire to help people in their community
  • MetLife and New England Financial do not provide Visa sponsorship for sales-related positions
